POSITION SUMMARY

As a Microbiome Research Scientist, you'll contribute to the
company's mission of advancing pet health and wellness through
nutrition. This exciting role will focus on leading and managing
research projects that explore the interactions between diet, the
microbiome, and host health, primarily in companion animals (dogs
and cats), with some research extending to ruminants and humans.
The scientist will investigate how these interactions influence
various aspects of pet health across different life stages,
including puppies, kittens, adults, and seniors.
Propose, develop, and implement new ideas/activities/projects to
strengthen scientific knowledge of diet-microbiome interactions and
how changes in microbial composition and function influence
companion animal life in healthy and diseased conditions
Propose, plan, test, and deliver innovative nutritional solutions
that influence microbial ecology to improve pet health
Collaborate with external and internal experts applying and
integrating a variety of experimental, computational, and
statistical methods to study pet microbiomes
Integrate metabolomics, transcriptomics, and other clinical
information with microbiome data to develop and test
nutrition-research hypotheses
Integrate scientific knowledge with an understanding of the
business reality and needs that will impact the business Innovation
& Renovation pipelines in this field
Present results/methods in written and oral form to internal and
external stakeholders
Explore patentable possibilities and alignment with regulatory
requirements
Assist project leaders in interpretation of microbiome data
Requirements
PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology or related field
4+ years' experience designing, implementing, and leading
scientific projects from early research discovery to end
points.
Other
Experience in Nutrition knowledge and in interactions between
microbes, diet, and host health is preferred
Experience in statistical programming and programming languages (R,
Python, C, C++ preferred) is preferred
Ability to contribute to the data flow from sequence data to
biological interpretation preferably with knowledge and experience
in statistical and bioinformatics software (QIIME, MOTHUR, USEARCH,
LEfSe, etc.). is preferred
Familiarity with multi-omic data types (metagenomics,
metatranscriptomics, metabolomics, etc.) and data analysis methods
is preferred
Background in animal or pet studies is preferred
Ability to travel up to 10%
The approximate pay range for this position is $73,000 to $99,000.
Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate
for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may
vary based on factors including but not limited to background,
knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of
