STEM Textbook Publisher role description
Are you passionate about education to support the next generation
of STEM professionals and researchers? Are you an innovative,
collaborative leader eager to mentor a growing team of talented
acquisitions editors?
Our growing team is dedicated to working closely with STEM
educators to develop high quality, foundational content for
students and early professionals worldwide.
In this role, the Publisher will:
* Work with a global team of professionals across editorial, sales,
marketing, production, operations, technology, product, legal,
finance, and more, as well as esteemed external experts
* Manage and coach a growing team of Acquisitions Editors,
fostering team connection and psychological safety
* Develop and execute acquisitions strategy at a team and portfolio
level, to deliver value to the business, quality content to the
market, and high usage for the customer
* Conduct market research utilizing data tools and market outreach
to understand customer needs
* Recruit, sign, and manage authors with subject matter as well as
teaching expertise to create innovative educational content for key
STEM areas, improving representation in the author pool and
expanding content area coverage while delivering to timely
publication and signing goals
The ideal candidate will have:
* Deep experience in academic publishing in acquisitions roles;
understanding of global academic markets, strategic planning,
content acquisitions, author management; familiarity with print and
digital content
* Proven ability to network and build strong relationships across
internal and external partners, with strong communication and
negotiation skills
* Track record of meeting goals and actively participating in
process improvements
* Thoughtful approach to people management, author and customer
relationships
* Understanding of utilizing market data and customer research to
develop and refine publishing and project plans
* Goal-driven, innovative approach to develop and improve on
processes, systems, and go-to-market execution
* Comfort working in matrix organization and interest in the
challenge of building new programs
