We are a busy location in the St. Louis Public Library system serving several diverse neighborhoods. Our ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working with the public and enjoys talking with people of all ages and backgrounds. We are also seeking someone who is a team player, enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service.In this role you will:Assist customers with obtaining library accounts and the check-out and return of materials.Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.Help customers find materials through face-to-face and telephone interactions, including locating items in the catalog or on the shelf, as well as looking up information and making recommendations.Provide assistance to customers with Library equipment.Restock and shelve materials, including shelf-reading, as necessary.Greet customers upon entering the Library facility.Assist in merchandising collections through the use of displays.Assist in opening and closing the location.You will need to be:Friendly, patient, and able to multitask while assisting customers.Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.Capable of effectively providing information and responding to questions from customers and staff.Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.You will need to have:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with previous customer service experience.Strong communication and organization skills.Strong Customer Service SkillsThe ability to learn how to use the following softwareGoogle Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail)Integrated Library Information (ILS) software.You will earn:Competitive salary range starting at $24,900/yearMedical, dental and life insurancePaid vacation, holidays, and sick daysPension plan through the Employees Retirement System of the City of St. LouisProfessional developmentScheduleMon and Tues 11:45-8:15; Wed and Thurs 8:45 - 5:15, Alternating Fri & Sat 8:45-5:15About SLPL:St. Louis Public Library is a true urban library, representing the historic center of the St. Louis region: the City of St. Louis. Buder Library has moved twice since its original location.Housed in a large building with 4 levels totaling 40,000 square feetCollection size is 80,000 items (includes juvenile and adult materials)1 computer lab (holds 12 computers and one copier)3 meeting rooms (one auditorium, one smaller conference room, and a multipurpose room)About the neighborhood:Buder is part of the St. Louis Hills neighborhood, a dynamic and busy neighborhood situated in the southwest area of St. Louis. In 2018, Buder celebrated its 20-year anniversary in the current location which is surrounded by a thriving retail scene as well as numerous restaurants.
