Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a teaching hospital staffed by more than
1,500 Washington University Physicians, the clinical practice for
the Washington University School of medicine. The academic medicine
partnership has developed many treatments and procedures that are
now common across the globe.
The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical
Laboratory Scientist (MLS) I performs processing and routine
testing on blood and other specimens which requires a knowledge and
understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and
procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Demonstrates good
- Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver
precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Performs all
testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality
- Reports results through the laboratory computer system
accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing
- Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots
malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and
initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems.
Specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely
- BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The
ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe
manner is an essential function of this job.
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Life Sciences or related
- <2 years experience
- 5 or more years of experience
