Responsibilities

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: NGA's Geodetic Earth Scientists collect, analyze and manipulate Earth data used to produce the Earth Gravity Model (EGM), World Magnetic Model (WMM), and Crustal Magnetic Model (CMM) for the Department of Defense (DoD). Geodetic Earth Scientists maintain the World Geodetic System (WGS 84), perform datum transformations, and drive NGA doctrine and policy in DoD and Intelligence Community (IC) forums by leveraging geodesy and geophysics expertise.

The selected individual will serve as a Geodetic Earth Scientist within the Geosciences Division, Office of Geomatics in one of three primary mission areas:

  • Gravity and Magnetic Force Modeling

o Maintain Earth's force models to accurately position geospatial intelligence in WGS 84

o Analyze and model the Earth's gravity field

o Analyze and model the Earth's core magnetic field

o Analyze and model the Earth's crustal magnetic field

o Analyze the effects of Earth's force fields on navigation and targeting performance

  • Coordinate Systems

o Research complex geodetic issues

o Maintain and improve current coordinate conversions and datum transformations applications

o Develop innovative map projection applications for DoD requirements

Band 3 Geodetic Earth Scientists typically have advanced degrees or relevant experience. They integrate quickly into Geosciences and work independently on routine production, but may require assistance on more complex challenges.
