Virtual Lead Instructor

LaunchCode

LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through education, apprenticeships, and job placement in technology. We're seeking a hyper-motivated Lead Instructor to lead our CodeCamp class.

Are you passionate about sharing your coding skills with others? Have programming chops and communication skills? Does the thought of preparing people for employment sing to your soul? Then you, my friend, should contract with us.

LaunchCode's Immersive CodeCamp

Immersive CodeCamp is a 14-week, full-time course taking a deep dive into in-demand technologies and skills. Thanks to the smaller class size of approximately 30 students, each student will have access to more personal, hands-on mentorship and individualized support from our instructors. The course curriculum is managed by LaunchCode and delivered by the Lead Instructor. The curriculum consists of coding and web fundamentals using JavaScript, Angular, and C#/.NET, with additional job-ready skills taught through project-building and career readiness.

Lead Instructor Responsibilities

As Lead Instructor, your responsibility is to broadly ensure the overall success of the class alongside your team of Teaching Assistants (TAs). You will plan and deliver lectures, provide insight to TAs, and have final say in coordination with LaunchCode's Candidate Engagement Manager on what happens during each class session. You will also be the primary liaison with LaunchCode staff, communicating feedback and any changes you plan to make. This role and the course TAs report directly to LaunchCode's Candidate Engagement Manager.

The CodeCamp Lead Instructor:

  • Is responsible for the execution of all aspects of the course related to student learning, including lectures, review sessions, and facilitating student activities
  • Support and assist LaunchCode staff in organizing supplementary activities and content, such as guest lectures and employer site visits
  • Is responsible for all course administration related to classroom activities, including grading, attendance, student evaluation, and student communications
  • Manages other course staff
  • Works with course staff to ensure maximum support of each student, including identifying student performance problems and working with students to create pathways for improvement
  • Works with LaunchCode staff to manage student enrollment and learning status, and regularly report course and student progress

Qualifications

  • Ability to empathize and work with learners from a wide variety of backgrounds and skill levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong, outcome-oriented work ethic
  • An ability to thrive and be an effective team member in high-intensity environments
  • Proficiency in topics covered
  • Willingness to learn in-depth the topics they are less familiar with
  • General alignment with LaunchCode's educational philosophy
  • Ability to lead and coach Teaching Assistants

The job is fast-paced and multi-faceted. It's also super fun. A pretty sweet deal, if you ask us.

You're perfect for this role if you

  • Have substantial work experience as a developer and/or experience teaching at the college level
  • Have experience teaching (formal or informal; e.g. hands-on mentoring of a junior developer might fall into this category)
  • Have experience managing a team
  • Possess a passion for technology/programming/problem solving
  • Are engaged in the local tech scene
