Summary

Spire is seeking an Insurance and Risk Analyst for our St. Louis headquarters. This role will focus on data gathering, analysis and reporting related to Spire's various insurance programs in support of our annual renewals, as well as analysis and loss control efforts related to our Claims and Workers Compensation functions. Additionally, this position will review and manage certificates of insurance from vendors

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various business units and departments to gather data, develop informative reports and work with our brokers for timely completion of insurance applications
  • Communicate with brokers to provide business updates that impact our insurance coverage and address basic operational questions related to coverage and requirements
  • Research industry-leading standards for key terms in our various policies, as well as changes in state laws affecting such policies, and provide recommendations to pursue with our brokers
  • Gather data and perform research to support root cause analysis, and work with various functional departments to develop solutions to support effective loss control programs, particularly related to our Workers Compensation and Claims departments
  • Manage our vendor certificates of insurance, including detailed review to ensure conformity to contractual requirements and diligent efforts to achieve timely renewals
  • Manage and maintain surety bond renewals and payments for our various business units
  • Ability to work independently and within a team on special projects
  • Maintain a high level of compliance and professional ethics
  • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Undergraduate degree in insurance, risk management, finance, economics, mathematics or a similar discipline

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Experience providing database administrative support, particularly developing reports, a plus
  • At least two years of experience working in an office environment
  • Quick learner with drive to research and problem solve
  • Being diligent and detail-oriented is essential
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, with preference for candidates that have experience with databases and advanced data analysis
  • Must possess the attitude and aptitude to develop new knowledge, skills and expertise, with a preference for candidates with insurance or legal experience or education
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Effective planning, organizational and prioritization skills in managing the work load, sometimes for more than one project or area
  • Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information in an appropriate and professional manner.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods; use hands; hear; use a telephone; and use a keyboard and computer. The employee is occasionally required to speak and use a copier and fax machine.
  • Typically 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional periods requiring extended hours
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Work is normally performed in a moderately noisy business office
