rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification
Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be
evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually
appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those
applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable
qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those
who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential

supervision Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience,
including volunteer work done through National Service programs

student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies,
knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and
experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will
receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer
experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40
hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on
the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must
indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in
each position and the number of hours a week spent in such
employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be able
to stoop, kneel, work with hands overhead, lift and use arm muscles
for tightening connections and so forth for long periods of time.
Incumbent may be exposed to toxic fumes, gases, and airborne
particles in the performance of duties. The exposure may adversely
affect pulmonary function. The wearing of a protective respirator
.that will reduce the possibility of pulmonary damage is mandatory
when working in areas where hazardous exposure is a possibility.
OSHA requirements mandate that employees, when required to use a
respirator will be clean shaven with no beard, and pass a baseline
pulmonary function test prior to use of a respirator. Working
Conditions: Incumbent must work in the steam plant, crawl spaces,
hot steam manholes, sewer manholes, permit required confined
spaces, basements, equipment rooms and other cramped spaces.
Considerable work in areas of extreme heat and high humidity,
extreme cold, wet and/or dampness. Frequently works in dusty and
dirty areas. Frequently works from ladders, scaffolds and elevated
platforms. Will be required at times to wear respirators and other
protective clothing or equipment for long periods of time.
Incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, bruises, high noise
levels, bums from hot water, steam, hot lead and caustic acids.
Incumbent will be required to participate in the respiratory health
screening program and will be required to be respirator fit tested
by a certified Industrial Hygienist.
