Wealth Strategist - Private Client Services

Job Description:

ResponsibilitiesProject Management

  • Wealth strategist would work in conjunction with existing BKD advisor and external advisors to develop, recommend and implement complex tax and estate plans for clients
  • Wealth strategist would also serve as point of contact to advise on other gift and estate issues and could connect others throughout the firm as needed
  • Wealth strategist would also be an external recognized BKD thought leader in the PCS area and ideally would present at high-level, impact conferences, produce written materials, etc---
  • Evaluates client's net worth and existing planning vehicles and develops ideas and alternatives (ie, creation of trusts, asset protection strategies, etc.)
  • Develops, consults on and implements tax, estate and legacy plans for clients, including those of the greatest complexity in coordination with existing PCS personnel
  • Consults with clients and their attorneys on the benefits of estate planning and to determine appropriate plans for estate taxes utilizing knowledge of inheritance, gift, income, and estate taxes
  • Collaborates with other planning resources on specific subject matters and partners in the acquisition of new clients.
  • Conducts and reviews research, as appropriate, and develops tax, estate and other analyses and plans. Makes generally accepted recommendations to team and may make recommendations to clients.
  • Will provide direction to and supervise PCS personnel in development of work product
  • Maintains current in-depth knowledge of a full range of trust-oriented services (e.g., personal trusts, living trusts, wills, investment management, custody, financial consulting, estate and tax planning)
  • Maintains periodic contact with clients in coordination with the relationship partner
  • Deepens existing relationships by working with integrated PCS teams
  • Retains, expands and deepens existing relationships in collaboration with relationship partners
  • Identifies solutions and BKD services as sales opportunities to enhance existing client relationships.
  • Develops new client relationships through networking, prospecting and referrals.

    Risk Management

    • Managing Risk - Assessing and effectively managing all of the risks associated with their business objectives and activities to ensure they adhere to and support BKD's Enterprise Risk
    • Business Acumen - Knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

      Client Service

      • Client Relationship Management - Knowledge and ability to determine and satisfy client needs and maintain a partnering relationship during engagements; includes influencing, communicating, presenting, facilitating, managing and developing others
      • Client Focused - Knowledgeable of the values and practices that align client needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and able to leverage that information in creating customized client solutions.
      • Problem Solving - Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
      • Effective Communications - Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
      • Decision Making and Critical Thinking - Understanding of the issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately

        Marketing/Business Development

        • Cultivates trusting relationships with existing partners to collaborate on bringing PCS opportunities to existing clients
        • Actively involved in networking at key organizations
        • Generates productive relationships with internal and external partners that improve access to resources and expertise.
        • Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and differentiating support offerings that address clearly understood client needs.
        • Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.


          • College degree - CPA, CFP, CFTA, LLM or JD preferred
          • Minimum of 15 to 20 years of professional client-facing experience required
          • Candidates should have knowledge of fiduciary capabilities and services (e.g., personal trusts, living trusts, wills, investment management, custody, financial consulting, estate and tax planning), including fee structures and documentation.
          • Analytical and business development skills are required to relate individual client asset situations to specific capabilities and services.
          • Interactive skills are required to comprehend prospects' needs and respond with the appropriate solutions.
          • Previous experience working in, law, tax services and consulting, financial services, wealth management, financial planning or a plus
          • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
          • Must be highly organized, proactive, energetic and enthusiastic with a heart for service
          • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; must have excellent phone presence
          • Attentive to detail and also able to multi-task; able to effectively resolve issues and conflicts
          • Willingness to travel
