As a member of the Employment Law Team, you will provide the
highest quality legal support to the Employment Law Team's clients,
which include our human resources organization, our various
business unit partners, and company management, on a full range of
federal, state, and local employment law issues. This position can
be based in any of our four corporate campuses in either Stamford,
CT, Greenwood Village, CO, St. Louis, MO or Charlotte, NC.
JOB SUMMARY
The Director and Senior Counsel, Employment Law is responsible for
managing all facets of the Company's employment arbitration
program. The successful candidate will be tasked with laying the
foundation for and building an in-house arbitration practice. For
the qualified candidate, this is a rare opportunity to litigate
cases from submission of a claim through adjudication, including
presenting and arguing cases before an arbitrator. The position
involves direct oversight of the Company's employment arbitration
program, which means ensuring compliance with applicable laws and
regulations; directing the internal review of claims submitted;
development of legal strategies that promote the favorable and
timely resolution of claims; staying abreast of legislative
initiatives that impact the Company's arbitration program;
researching relevant legal principles and precedents; revising, as
necessary, the arbitration agreement and accompanying guidelines;
drafting policies and procedures that advance the Company's
arbitration program; and advising executives of arbitration-related
trends and developments. The position reports to Charter's Senior
Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Employment Law.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support the Company's business
efforts
Manage arbitration claims involving the Company
Interpret applicable laws, rulings, and regulations
Prepare and present compliance and legal briefing to management
Research and draft summaries of legal issues
Evaluate existing policies, procedures and applicable training for
the corporation
Support various business units by assessing legal risk and
providing legal solutions to business issues
Meet with business clients and third-parties
Negotiate, review, or draft pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and
agreements
Coordinate and manage outside counsel as required
Keep informed of industry-specific statutes and regulations and
ensures that appropriate risk management strategies are formulated
and followed
Work proactively with attorneys in other legal practice areas to
proactively identify and address key legal issues for
management
Perform other duties as required
Ability to travel 30-40% of time

Education
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. Top 20% and law review
preferred.
Admission to State Bar in which Attorney practices
Related Work Experience
5 to 10 years of litigation experience, preferably in the area of
employment law
