Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is

Credentialing Center. Division 7100/71ou is a fast paced Thoracic
Surgery division made up of 15 beds and an 8 bed Observation Unit.
We care for a variety of complex thoracic surgery patients
including post-op lung transplant, lung volume reduction surgery,
lung cancer, esophageal cancer, Barrett's esophagus, tracheal
tumors, disease of the airway, various lung surgery, thoracic
disease, heart-lung transplant, pulmonary hypertension, emphysema,
and thoracic malignancies. 7100 is recognized as a Center of
Excellence by the Joint Commission for Lung Volume Reduction
Surgery. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient
care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to
continually assess the patients' status. The Staff Nurse (RN) is
trained in critical care and will be certified in BLS, ACLS, ACUTE
CARE, arterial line monitoring, and intro to ventilators.
Role PurposeProvides direct patient care activities including
assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation
within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
- Educates patients and their families on how to manage their
illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and
- Uses critical thinking skills to assess and evaluate patient's
physical, psychosocial and emotional needs.
- Develops and implements individual plans of care in
collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in
accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing
care. Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing
- Evaluates patient's response and modifies plan of care
accordingly throughout the patient's stay.
- Participates in activities that promote safety, quality and
regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development and
life long learning. Minimum Requirements Degree
- Nursing Diploma/Associate's - Nursing Experience
