Role Kidney/liver transplant surgery and hepatobiliary performs a
variety of procedures, including pancreas transplants. Our kidney
disease program is consistently ranked among the best in the nation
by U.S.News & World Report, with more than 250 kidney transplants
performed each year. Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of
nurses, physicians, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers and
spiritual caregivers who communicate daily to meet patient needs.
Nurses are provided an extensive orientation specific to the care
of our patients, including critical care training. At the
Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Transplant Center, our
specialists have performed more than 1,700 liver transplants,
helping restore patients’ liver function and health. In fact,
Washington University surgeons completed the first successful liver
transplant surgery in Missouri. Our extensive experience gives us a
unique depth of expertise in providing expert treatment and
compassionate care to patients who need a liver transplant.

Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides direct patient care
activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning
implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the
standards of nursing care. Responsibilities Promotes patient and
family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients
and their families on how to manage their illness or injury,
including post treatment home care needs and medication
administration. Participates in activities that promote patient
safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in
professional development. Develops, implements, and documents
individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with
other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or
caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and
standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures
communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical,
psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care,
including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and
population-specific needs. BJC has determined this is a
