Some of the procedures done in IR are Pulmonary embolism, angiovac,
ablations, Y 90, Angiograms, Paracentesis, stroke, cerebral
aneurysm, vascular studies, Nephrology procedures, line placements,
thrombolytics, hemo-dynamic monitoring, kyphoplasty, biopsies,
drains, shockwave lithotripsy.SLU Hospital is an academic institute

Job Summary:
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist performs tasks that
provide support during invasive neurologic, vascular, and
non-vascular procedures.
VIR cases include neurology, vascular surgery, interventional
radiology, and ephrology.
The IR technologist functions under the direction of the
Interventional physicians.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Prepares and positions patients and selects anatomic and technical
parameters accurately.
Prepares and administers contrast media and medications within the
accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal
regulations.
Observes patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity.
Monitors protocols and recommends updates or refinements as
warranted.
Circulate and scrub complex IR/neuro procedures.
Support OR Vascular surgery
cases as needed.
Responsible for billing/coding of procedures performed.
Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines
Ensures all activities comply with regulatory agency standards.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Call is required with 30 minute response time.

Job Specifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Associate's degree or Radiology Certification Program
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
No experience required but 2 years experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Constant standing and walking.Frequent use of vision and depth
perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet
or more).Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information
through oral communication.
Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear
alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25
lbs.
Frequent lifting/moving of patients.
Frequent wearing of lead vest during procedures.
Frequent reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.
Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing
25-50 lbs.
Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.
Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting and repetitive
foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
Rare kneeling and sitting.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
And
ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
(ARRT)
Additional ARRT- VI certification preferred, but not required
