Position Summary -

Under general supervision, the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) ensures compliance with all applicable laws, procedures, and legal regulations for the pharmacy, to safeguard patient safety and effectiveness of therapy. The PIC works as a staff pharmacist to compound and dispense prescribed medications and provides functional supervision of identified professional and support staff. The PIC assists the Pharmacy Manager in developing efficient dispensing workflows and customer initiatives to produce a cost effective, superior product to customers. The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) is distinguished from the Pharmacist by the PIC's responsibility for ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations governing the operation of the respective pharmacy. -

Responsibilities
Responsibilities: -


  • Accept duties of Pharmacist-in-Charge in accordance with all state and federal regulations. -
  • Maintains records of all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to ensure accurate control over and accountability for all drugs and records as required by applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; ensures legal operation of the pharmacy, including meeting all inspection and other requirements of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy operations. -


    • Prepare a balanced work schedule for the staff pharmacists which meets work demand. -
    • Interact with community leadership handling day-to-day customer service requests or issues as well as attend customer service meetings as site visits upon request of the pharmacy manager. -
    • Research and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies via workflow modifications or technology. -
    • Oversee quality assurance programs; ensure the quality of all prescriptions released to be dispensed remain within acceptable levels of accuracy. -
    • Assist Pharmacy Manager in special projects related to establishing long-term goals. -


      • Implement and execute new operational procedures identified by customer request or management team, as well as reporting on its effectiveness to the Pharmacy Manager. -
      • Perform all principle functions and responsibilities of the Staff Pharmacist role: -


        • Interpret and assess new and refill order requests accurately to ensure appropriate therapy and maintain patient safety. -
        • Clarify inappropriate physician orders when necessary. -
        • Transcribe telephone orders accurately and review for appropriate therapy. -


          • Provide an accurate final check on all prepared medication to ensure completeness. -
          • Prepare and complete all appropriate documentation required on orders, prescriptions, controlled substance records, general workflow, etc. -
          • Monitor and recommend therapy adjustments based on patient status, lab work, and culture results. -
          • Monitor Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) lab work, recommend dosing adjustments when appropriate, communicate with nursing staff and prescribers, enter orders into the pharmacy software, and coordinate deliveries to communities. -
          • Provide physicians, nursing staff, and public with drug information such as drug selection, dosage, proper administration, etc. -


            • Counsel patients and review medications using audio/visual technology for tele-pharmacy. -


              • Provide "On Call" coverage as needed. -
              • Perform required tasks to effectively manage the department and human resources. -

                Qualifications
                Qualifications: -

                • Bachelor's of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) from NABP accredited College of Pharmacy. -


                  • Valid state registered pharmacist license. -
                  • Institutional pharmacy experience; minimum three years. -
                  • Possess knowledgeable understanding of current medication information, health care concepts, and all regulations relative to the practices of institutional pharmacy. -
                  • Demonstrated ability to stay up to date on medication information, health care concepts, and all regulations relative to the practices of institutional pharmacy. -
                  • Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions. -


                    • Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment, make independent decisions, and demonstrate ability to lead and assist team other team members. -
                    • Ability to maintain organization, multi-task, problem-solve and prioritize by exhibiting initiative and reliability; strong conflict resolution skills. -
                    • General computer knowledge including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook. -
                    • Exercise professional phone, verbal and written communication skills. -
                    • Must be able to work and lead in a flexible schedule as operational needs dictate, including, when necessary, nights and weekends, holidays, covering open pharmacist shifts, or taking off-site phone calls to assist with emergent needs of the department. -

                      QUALIFICATIONS PREFFERED -

                      • Community formulary experience. -
                      • Basic knowledge of Docutrack and Framework LTC prescription processing. -
                      • Managerial experience; one to three years. -
