T he Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and
Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader

Role Purpose
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Intern, under the direction of the
Service Line Director and matrix reporting to a CNS leader,
assists/supports the division in continuous improvement of the
patient outcomes, patient experience, and staff work processes. The
intern will develop and mentor nurses to implement evidence-based
practices in their work areas. Under the guidance of a CNS, the CNS
Intern will facilitate policy development, lead interprofessional
teams, mentor others, and partner at the division and across the
organization to improve outcomes. The CNS Intern will foster an
environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues,
nurses and other healthcare team members. The Intern will
demonstrate growth and will assume increasing amounts of
accountability within the Division throughout their internship.

Responsibilities
* Provide skillful guidance and teaching to advance the care of
patients, families, groups of patients and the profession of
nurse.
* Demonstrate patient, staff, and system focused interaction
between professionals with which the consultant has specialized
expertise to assist with problem solving. Work collaboratively with
others to optimize clinical outcomes.
* Provide direct care and interactions with patients, families and
groups of patients to promote health, prevent complications and
improve quality of life with a holistic perspective.
* Actively engage in thorough and systematic inquiry through search
for, interpretation and implementation of evidence in clinical
practice and quality improvement to address and prevent clinical
problems. Engage in the conduct of research relevant to specialty
area.
* Demonstrates ability to manage change and empower others to
influence clinical practice and innovation within the division and
across the organization.
* BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The
ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe
manner is an essential function of this job.
