Job DescriptionWe are South City Hospital. Our primary function
is to offer continuous nursing, medical, and other health and
social services on a 24-hour basis, under physician directed care
and RN supervision.We focus on providing care for patients who are
not in the acute phase of illness or requiring services in a
hospital and who require primary, restorative, or skilled nursing
services on an inpatient or custodial care basis. Our goal is to
help our patients reach a degree of self-care in essential daily

insurance. The Registered Nurse - Circulator is responsible for the
delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process of
assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The RN
functions within the limits of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act,
South City Hospital and Patient Care Services policies and practice
guidelines, and performs in a comparable manner to peers with
similar training, experience and circumstances.PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assesses the physiological health status of the patient
including, but not limited to, cardiovascular, respiratory, level
of consciousness, mobility, laboratory work, diagnostic procedures,
and pain level. Alerts appropriate team member or physician as
necessary regarding deviations from normal.
- Inserts intravenous infusion catheters, calculates intravenous
infusion, and administers intravenous push medications. Assists
anesthesia personnel with pre-operative procedures. Provides
nursing care for patients with CVP lines, arterial lines, and
Swan-Ganz lines.
- Provides post-operative nursing care for the patient who is on
a ventilator.
- Communicates with operating room personnel regarding surgery
schedule status and bed availability in PACU.
- Provides post-operative care, and occasional pre-operative
care, for patients who have received general, monitored, local,
spinal/epidural, or nerve block anesthesia.
- Provides post-operative nursing care for all types of
patients.
- Gives report to Same Day Surgery nursing staff and hospital
floor staff regarding patients as they become available for
discharge from PACU.
- Records all nursing assessments correctly on nurse's notes and
charges patient's appropriately for all services and supplies
used.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from Associate, Diploma or Bachelor degreed nursing
program
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of
Missouri
- Experience as a RN - Circulator required
- Current MO Nursing License
- Completion of CPR
- Evaluative skills necessary for patient assessment.
- Decision making skills required for treatment
planning/implementation.
- Clinical reasoning and judgment skills necessary for evaluation
of nursing interventions and for safety of patients and self.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact
with patients, visitors and staff. Ability to recognize need for
and alter communication with patients with communication
impairments.
- Ability to manage time, organize daily schedule to meet
productivity standards, and cope with professional stress.
