Job DescriptionWe are South City Hospital. Our primary function
is to offer continuous nursing, medical, and other health and
social services on a 24-hour basis, under physician directed care
and RN supervision.We focus on providing care for patients who are
not in the acute phase of illness or requiring services in a
hospital and who require primary, restorative, or skilled nursing
services on an inpatient or custodial care basis. Our goal is to
help our patients reach a degree of self-care in essential daily

insurance. The Registered Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab is responsible
for the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing
process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The
RN functions within the limits of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act,
South City Hospital and Patient Care Services policies and practice
guidelines, and performs in a comparable manner to peers with
similar training, experience and circumstances.PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assesses patient's condition during a procedure, immediately
recognizing potentially dangerous and life threatening conditions
and intervening appropriately.
- Assess vascular system, level of consciousness, level of
anxiety, knowledge base and psychosocial status.
- Takes nursing histories from patients and/or significant others
to determine patient's needs, reflect the physiological condition
of the patient, reflect the psychosocial needs of the patient.
- Identifies recurrent patient, problems, symptoms and behavioral
changes in relation to standards of care and individual needs.
- Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed
about patient condition.
- Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure.
- Reviews patient's admission database, most recent nursing
assessment done prior to arrival, interim summary of lab values,
medications and current orders.
- Preps patient for procedure and ensures table is set for
procedures.
- Starts IVs when needed.
- Obtains medications from the Pharmacy and administers
medications in the Cath/Angio Suite and elsewhere as needed.
- Collects blood samples.
- Assists in Cardiac Output procedure and ACTs.
- Monitors vital signs, removes arterial/venous sheaths, applies
femoral pressure, gives post-procedural
instructions/teachings.
- Gives report to floor nursing staff.
- Transports patients to and from the Cath Lab.
- Participates in patient and family teaching pre, during, and
post procedure
- Records all pressures monitored during lab procedures.
Interprets all pressures utilizing the physiological recording
system.
- Documents accurately, thoroughly and completely including but
not limited to procedure notes with notation in all fields as
appropriate.
- Assures comprehensive documentation and utilization of charge
sheets, pre and post procedure summary sheets.
- Maintains patient film record, procedure identification file,
sends films out to other institutions, files patient reports,
purges reports and films as necessary to storage.
- Develops the patient care plan in collaboration with other
members of the health team, patient and/or significant others.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of
Missouri
- Recent Cath Lab experience
- Completion of CPR
- Evaluative skills necessary for patient assessment.
- Decision making skills required for treatment
planning/implementation.
- Clinical reasoning and judgment skills necessary for evaluation
of nursing interventions and for safety of patients and self.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact
with patients, visitors and staff. Ability to recognize need for
and alter communication with patients with communication
impairments.
- Ability to manage time, organize daily schedule to meet
productivity standards, and cope with professional stress.
