SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, a LEVEL 1 Time Critical Diagnosis hospital in Stroke, Trauma and STEMI, is at the forefront of ground-breaking medical treatments, procedures, clinical trials and comprehensive patient care. SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital has been an academic hospital in the St. Louis community for more than 80 years.Trauma is a 24 bed unit providing care to General/Trauma surgical patients. The primary focus is the care of the postoperative abdominal surgical population. The Nursing staff is trained to accept surgical patients following: appendectomy/cholecystectomy, pancreatectomy, mastectomy, pancreaticoduodenectomy, gastrectomy, exploratory laparotomy, and colon resections. Primary disease processes include: Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's, Diverticular disease/diverticulitis, malignancies and gall bladder disease. The trauma population includes: penetrating/blunt injuries, CHI and fractures. Patient condition ranges from satisfactory to serious. Population includes an adult and geriatric population (Adolescent Care is provided on an infrequent basis).$10K Sign On Bonus available!The registered nurse (RN) is a professional practitioner who provides, manages and directs nursing care activities during the patients' perioperative experience and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Must be energetic and highly motivated to support the success of Saint Louis University Hospital.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (% of time)Essential Functions: The following are essential job accountabilities and performance criteria:Position Accountabilities1) Assessment: Performs comprehensive nursing assessment as the database.CriteriaA) Accurately performs and documents patient assessments including the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs.B) Provides timely ongoing patient reassessment documenting pertinent observations according to the care plan.C) Utilizes special assessments (abuse, pediatric, fall risk, skin Care, etc.) when appropriate.2) Planning: Establishes and coordinates a plan of care based on analysis of the initial assessment data, patient diagnosis and physician orders.Criteria:A) Identifies patient care needs.B) Formulates interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes.C) Follows established standards of practice.D) Collaborates with appropriate health team members for coordination of plan of care for assigned patients.3) Implementation: Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in-patient condition.CriteriaA) Documents patient care on the Perioperative Record and coordinates and communicates with other disciplines.B) Transcribes and initiates physician orders in an accurate and timely manner.C) Recognizes changes in patients' condition, takes appropriate Nursing actions.4) Evaluation: Documents effectiveness of nursing care.CriteriaA) Performs and documents ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of care based on assessment data, nursing interventions, patient response to medications, treatments and procedures.B) Evaluates plan of care and modifies as indicated.C) Identifies problems, gathers pertinent data, suggests solutions, communicates using appropriate lines of authority, and works toward problem resolution.D) Recognizes significant changes in patient's clinical parameters and reports to surgeon and others as indicated.5) Demonstrates accounts for own professional practice.Criteria:A) Participates in additional learning experience to increase professional competence including:1.
