DIRECT REPORTS: Director, Annual Giving (including 2 direct reports, Annual Fund Manager and Manager, Philanthropy Communications), Director, Philanthropy Operations (including 3 direct reports), Associate Director, Symphony Volunteer Programs
The Senior Director, Annual Fund is responsible for fundraising for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) with focus on oversight of the Annual Fund/Individual giving programs with the goal of maximizing philanthropic support for the SLSO. Reporting to the Vice President and CPO and working with the Executive team, and the Philanthropy, Marketing and Communications teams, the Senior Director, Annual Fund will develop, manage, and execute individual giving strategies for achieving Annual Fund revenue exceeding $8 million in support of the mission and music of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
The Senior Director will provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to the Annual Fund and Philanthropy Operations staff and will serve on the Philanthropy leadership team as a thought partner for the overall strategy of the department.
The Senior Director will also manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with the ability to cultivate and solicit gifts from the top tier as appropriate, and that complement the SLSO's annual contributed income goals.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, a strategic thinker, organized, passionate about the mission of the SLSO and possess the poise, experience, and attitude to lead the team on the Annual Fund and build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Develop and oversee comprehensive plans for individual donors at all levels with a particular focus on Leadership Circle ($1,500-$5,000) donors and Friends (up to $1,499).
-Lead, plan, and direct annual Board (in coordination with Sr. Director Major Gifts) and individual appeals to all donors and prospects with a staff contact, those getting letter only and follow up calls as well as donors included in direct mail, online giving, and digital social media, working with cross-functional teams to develop integrated materials and messaging to support each campaign/communication.
-Identify, recruit, manage and coordinate the Leadership Circle Committee with the goal of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these volunteer leaders and donors.
-Work closely with the Senior Director, Major Gifts, to identify, cultivate and solicit major donors and prospects, developing and implementing strategies to more closely engage these donors and grow their support. This includes coordination with the Campaign and Planned Giving directors, as well.
-Responsible for developing and implementing strategies for personally cultivating and soliciting existing donors as well as new prospects to appropriately position the SLSO for near and long-term success. Personally manage and solicit a portfolio of donors and prospects through one-on-one meetings and regular personalized communication.
-Manage all aspects of the SLSO's individual giving programs including all solicitations, benefits delivery, and recognition, in collaboration with the Philanthropy team.
-Partner with Director of Philanthropy Operations to ensure a smooth process for gift entry and acknowledgements and to develop a pipeline of prospects across all giving levels.
-Analyze and share fundraising data with internal and external audiences to empower informed decision making on fundraising prospects and strategies.
-Work with the philanthropy leadership team to develop, analyze and forecast revenue for individual giving and prepare and manage the expense budget for the Individual Giving team.
-Provide meaningful supervision and support for the Annual Fund team, coordinating workloads and projects, monitoring progress, creating opportunities for new challenges and learning, and giving regular feedback on progress toward goals, both as a team and individually.
