Job Title: Catholic Music Director

Based at: Saint-Louis, Missouri

Job Summary: Catholic Music Director to perform in Saint-Louis, Missouri. We are looking for a candidate who can succeed at providing relevant work experience in Religious Education, also, demonstrates an adequate education and background in this field, and fully capable of accomplishing his duties in such an effective and efficient manner.

  • Requirements: The Candidate must meet the following requirements:
    • Provide written validation of their credentials. A baccalaureate degree in music or equivalent.
    • Two years' experience with Catholic Masses and the whole spectrum of Catholic Liturgical practices since the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council is required.
    • Have at least two years recent experience (professional or volunteer) as a director at a church or military chapel.
    • Provide a signed letter from the Priest of the contract employee's Catholic Church indicating that the contract employee is in good standing.
    • Follow all copyright laws governing printed matter and their proper use.
    • Time Management
    • Duties:
    • Efficiently organize and work with a variety of musical backgrounds.
    • Direct and lead the music service on regularly scheduled weekend (52) services, Holy Days of Obligation (15), and special services (average of 5 per year) as determined by the Catholic liturgical calendar and in coordination with the Catholic Priest.
    • Lead/direct/accompany choir rehearsals once a week (52) and Holy Days of Obligation (15), and special services (average of 5 per year). Rehearsals shall be a minimum of one hour in length.
    • Prepare and provide music in accordance with Roman Catholic worship practices.
    • Direct music services to include piano and/or organ, vocals, sight reading, select instrumental, and choral music relating to the liturgical seasons, rite, or sacrament being celebrated, choral direction, and teaching choral harmonies, i.e., soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.
    • Work in cooperation with the Wing Chaplain or designee.
    • Develop adult and children's choirs by recruiting, auditioning, training, and directing volunteers.
    • Recruit, audition, train, and direct paid and volunteer musicians, cantors, and soloists.
    • Attend Catholic Liturgy Committee meetings (5 per year) and the Catholic Advisory Council (CAC) meetings (12 per year).
    • Maintain a music library containing resources to be used in support of the Catholic Worship Service Music Program(s). Maintenance of the library will include reviewing material on file, submitting requests for new materials compatible with the potential of active music group, and also ensuring no illegal copies of music exist in the library.
    • Coordinate with the Catholic Priest in the selection, preparation, and performance of music, which relates to the theme established by scripture reading and/or religious season.
    • Play a wide range of musical styles from classical to contemporary Catholic hymns.
    • Provide choral direction, and teach choral harmonies, i.e., soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.
    • Be proficient at the minimum with acoustic guitar or piano, and vocals.
    • Maintain accountability of praise and worship equipment used in performance of duties.
    • Submit fund requests for additional equipment needed for program requirements.
    • Provide one Catholic service per week on Sunday, and one rehearsal during the week-- totaling two functions. Provide up to 12 functions per month including special services.
