JOB SUMMARY: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in producing and repackaging compressed and liquid gases into cylinders. Corrects unsafe acts or conditions without delay. Assigns job tasks to workers according to customer needs, current stock levels and workers' expertise. Studies production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment. Implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and changes working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Trains new workers and cross trains associates to continue production during personnel shortages. Maintains time and production records. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Operate and safely maintain plant for pumping or repackaging gases into cylinders while compliant with all federal, state, local and company policies, procedures, regulations and laws. * Manage and lead subordinate supervisors to provide leadership. * Ensure all injuries and accidents are properly investigated and reported within 24 hours. * Resolve problems associated with plant operation. * Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted and documented. * Maintain neat, clean and orderly plant appearance. * Provide coaching and corrective action promptly, to ensure that poor performers are identified, documented and improved to acceptable performance, or released. * Approve overtime when essential, while keeping overtime at acceptable levels. * Ensure associate complaints, grievances, etc. are effectively handled. * Ensure pre-employment documentation and physical examinations are completed in a timely manner. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or the equivalent, five years related experience and/or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with entering and extracting data into and from a computer. Proven ability to work effectively under deadlines and with little supervision and to complete a high volume of paperwork accurately and on time. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write report, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other associates, managers, customers and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area and volume. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram or schedule form. The associate must occasionally lift up to 60 pounds and move up to 125 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment.
