Miriam is seeking to fill the position of Director of Development. The Director of Development is an integral part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for all development activities to support the Miriam mission of empowering unique learners by building confidence and a foundation for success. To learn more about Miriam, click here.SummaryAs part of the senior leadership team, the Director of Development is responsible for meeting the current and future funding needs of this dynamic and growing organization by leading the strategy, planning and implementation, and outcome measurements of all Miriam's fund development programs including: major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, grants, special campaigns, events, and database management.Essential Functions* Serve as the spokesperson to promote Miriam's mission and will be dedicated to promoting the fundraising activities by engaging internally with the Interim Executive Director, Board and employees and developing relationships externally with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and the broader community* Engage with current and prospective donors to steward important relationships based upon their passions and interests and Miriam's needs* Responsible for creating and managing a strategic development plan that will work within a predetermined budget and meet or exceed five year goals* Ensure controlled systems are in place to provide for the appropriate tracking and follow-up of all donations to secure the organization's ability to build, grow, and sustain donor relationships, and to measure the effectiveness of the development plan* Ensures compliance of all relevant regulations and laws* Develop a team to meet the development needs of MiriamRequired Education/License/Certification(s) and Experience* A Bachelor's Degree in related field plus 10 years of successful experience, including knowledge of annual giving, foundation/corporate solicitations, marketing and communications, special events, and database management* Exceptional relationship building and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with donors, volunteers, employees, and Board members* Comfortable working in a small and fast-paced environment where demands may need to be reprioritized frequently* Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects independently while meeting deadlines* Knowledge and experience in the following areas is preferred: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reportingWorking Conditions* Full time, 12 month position* Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 4:30PM, evenings and weekends as needed* Direct supervision of the Development team, Miriam Switching Post store employees and volunteers, and collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team regularly* The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
