Job Description:
Teach For America is seeking its next Executive Director to lead
the St. Louis region. Since its launch in 2002, Teach for America
has grown a sizable leadership force of both corps members and over
500 local alumni, and the potential for continued collective impact
remains large. This leader will work shoulder-to-shoulder with
existing champions and enlist new advocates - including our corps
members, parents, students, community leaders, donors, and elected
officials - as partners in the success of all children. The next
leader will work alongside a staff, corps, alumni base, students,
families and board as we also live more fully into our next 10-year
organizational strategy and chart the next chapter in the region.
The new ED's mission is to define the unique and evolving role that
Teach For America must play to accelerate educational opportunity
for all throughout the region. We view the St. Louis ED role as a
movement builder, partner and motivator. Our incoming ED must
partner deeply with others in local education, community and equity
efforts to work together to drive change. This leader takes the
helm as we navigate dual crises of a global pandemic and systemic
racism, and with this, comes the opportunity to rethink the future
of how to accelerate change across the region. We seek to build a
strong pool this winter, and begin interviews at the end of
February.-- Primary Responsibilities Our new Executive Director
(ED) will deeply believe in our vision - that every child in
America has the chance to attain an excellent education. The next
ED will lead our staff team, engage and inspire our community,
expand our fundraising and meaningfully contribute to educational
improvement efforts in St. Louis through the following core
activities: Engaging and investing internal and external
stakeholders in the St. Louis vision (staff, corps members, board,
alumni, families, community, etc.): Our ED will execute what Teach
For America's work will look like in the region and lead a team
successfully to realize that vision.-- Expanding, evolving and
sustaining Teach For America's fundraising base: Our ED is charged
with raising $1.1 million annually and working closely with the
board.-- Leading a strong team and strengthening the broader Teach
For America community: Our ED will lead a team of 8 staff members.
In addition, our ED is charged with ensuring that the region has a
thriving corps, alumni, and staff culture, as well as strong
student outcomes in corps member classrooms. Ensuring the
organization is part of a broad and diverse coalition for change:
The ED will mobilize the education ecosystem - ensuring that our
corps (currently 50+ CMs) and alumni (550 locally) are represented
and engaging in coalitions that are fighting on behalf of our
students and families in the St. Louis community. Experience and
Competencies --- 8-10 years of professional experience, at least
part of which includes successful experience managing and leading

influential relationships with current and prior stakeholders in
your work, mobilizing them in some way to create champions in your
work-- --- Outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability and
desire to develop and maintain deep relationships with a variety of
diverse constituents --- Understanding of and commitment to
learning from and alongside the local community that impacts Teach
For America-St. Louis.-- We are seeking a leader who has deep
belief in and demonstrated commitment to the following:-- Building
strong relationships: Ensuring every corps member and alumnus is
known as a person and a professional, considering and connecting
the multiple strengths they bring across the network; at the same
time, identifies and can work well with diverse critical partners
across multiple levels and functions-- Community building:

time REQ-202101-269 About Us There are more than 16 million
children growing up in poverty in the U.S., and less than 10
percent of them will graduate from college. These statistics are
not a reflection of our children's potential; we know that children
growing up in poverty can and do achieve at the highest levels.
Rather, these statistics reflect the systemic lack of access and
opportunity for children in low-income communities. By 2030, twice
as many children in communities where we work will reach key
educational milestones indicating they are on a path to economic
mobility and a future filled with possibility. Teach For America's
(TFA) mission is to find, develop, and support a diverse network of
leaders committed to expanding opportunity for children from
classrooms, schools, and every sector and field that shapes the
broader systems in which schools operate. We are seeking
individuals who align with our mission, core values and commitment
to Diversity Equity & Inclusiveness and are ready to join us in
this global movement. WE ARE DEEPLY COMMITTED TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY
& INCLUSIVENESS In all we do, we act on the following beliefs:
Diversity is crucial for successful change efforts and is one of
Teach For America's greatest strengths.-- The full potential of our
diverse network will be reached only when we are an inclusive
community. The predictability of success or failure for our
students or individuals in our organization should not correlate
with any social, cultural or other identity-based factors. Teach
For America encourages individuals of all ethnic, racial, and
socioeconomic backgrounds to apply for this position. We are
committed to maximizing the diversity of our organization, as we
want to engage all those who can contribute to this effort. Teach
