Manager, Communications Job number: US13214 Position type Regular Function General & Administrative State/Province Missouri City St. Louis Region US Posting Date: Oct-28-2020 Division Information Spectrum Brands utilizes a Shared Services model that enables resources to be leveraged across the organization. The Shared Services team is made up of information technology, human resources, indirect sourcing, finance & accounting professionals that support all business units. Shared services teams are headquartered in Middleton, Wisconsin but have members across the country. Job Summary The Communications Manager, Americas is responsible for leading strategy for internal communications and Employee Experience to drive engagement of employees in the Spectrum Brands Americas region. This region is comprised of employees in the North America (U.S and Canada) and Latin America (LATAM) regions and spans a broad diversity of employees across countries, business units and functions. This position reports to the Senior Director, Employee Experience. The Communications Manager develops and executes the strategy in alignment and coordination with the companywide Employee Experience & Communications strategy. This position supports business unit and regional leaders to counsel, guide and in some cases, execute their strategies to drive employee engagement and ultimately business growth. As a key member of the Employee Experience team, this individual will also focus on strategies to drive employee engagement within non-office settings such as plants and distribution centers. This strategy will be shared and leveraged globally with fellow colleagues. Primary Duties & Responsibilities - Partner with the Senior Director, Employee Experience to develop a yearly global/U.S. editorial content calendar that inspires and connects employees to our business strategy. - Be an integral part of the team, providing input to define, refine and monitor execution and impact of the Global Corporate and Americas communication strategies. - Ensure consistency of key corporate messages across the Americas region. Partner with the International Communications Manager to ensure harmonization and consistency of messages across commercial regions. - Ensure the Americas region is represented and featured in corporate communications by advocating their employee voices, achievements and contributions to Spectrum Brands. - Establish and maintain relationships with a network of contacts to foster two-way communication, maintain a pulse on employee sentiment and enable communications efforts. - Contribute ideas and content for global and regional/business channels including newsletter articles, regional emails, regional town halls, videos, graphics, etc. - Manage Spectrum Brands' digital signage efforts at a corporate level, including vendor management. Provide governance and consultation to colleagues on use of digital signage as an effective communication channel. - Collaborate with business units on change management strategies and plans. - Collaborate and consult with LATAM and Canada HR business partners to align LATAM and Canada specific communications to the Americas strategy. - Provide leadership communications support to two Business Unit leads, including counseling/coaching on messaging and communication channels. Draft town hall and video scripts, email/written communications and other communication needs as needed. - Partner with the Senior Director, Employee Experience to define and support employee engagement survey strategy within region, including identifying needed resources. - Partner with the Senior Director, Employee Experience to develop activities and communication channels specifically for the non-office based employees, located in manufacturing or distribution locations. - Be a collaborative, reliable team member, stepping in to support team initiatives as needed. Education and Experience Profile - A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in employee communications, public or media relations or writing required. - Bachelor's degree required. - Experience in corporate communications to non-office based employees preferred (manufacturing, distribution, retail, field, etc.). Required Skills - Confident communicator. Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills including emails, news content and internal presentations. - Experience with video production, graphic design, digital communications and other visual means to reach non-office based employees is preferred. - Creative mindset/innovative approach in how to best communicate to various audiences and engage employees. - Exceptional attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task in a deadline driven environment; flexible in meeting deadlines and urgent requests. - Excellent project management skills. - Highly motivated, accountable, works well individually and with a team, including employees at all levels in an organization. - Ability to counsel and coach senior leaders on their communication efforts. - Ability and discretion to handle confidential business information and to work with leadership and HR on sensitive business and employee matters. - Ability to travel locally, regionally and internationally less than 15% of the time. - Plus: Speaks fluent Spanish with strong written and verbal communication skills.
