POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our forward-thinking, growing and progressive CPA and consulting firm. We are headquartered in St. Louis, MO with two smaller offices located in Edwardsville, IL and St. Charles, MO. Our Accountant, under direct supervision, prepares federal and state tax returns of individuals and businesses, as well as other tax filings (e.g. sales, payroll, excise, gift, trusts, and estates). Additionally, they maintain financial reports, records and general ledgers. POSITION DETAILS:

• Assist with tax/accounting services including planning, research, and compliance
• Prepare income tax returns for various entities and individuals
• Handle IRS and state taxing authorities' correspondence
• Interact with client personnel on tax return information, due dates, deadlines, and other compliance matters
• Recognize potential problem areas in projects/returns and follow-up with appropriate discussion(s)
• Calculate federal and state quarterly estimates and annual extensions
• Reconcile various tax accounts and prepare account roll forward schedules
• Prepare work papers to support the completion of state and federal corporate income tax
• Perform administrative duties such as maintaining schedules, filing, copying, and producing tax compliance forms on a federal and state level as needed
• Additional Duties included but not limited to:
• Manage own workload by:
• Monitoring project/return deadlines,
• Maintaining frequent daily contact with clients, Partners, and Principals to assess project status and problems encountered
• Showing proficiency when handling multiple engagements
• Participate in training
• Look for opportunities to provide additional services to clients through internal cross-selling
• Develop a network of referral sources through active involvement in professional and civic organizations
• Provide creativity in evaluating tax/accounting service procedures and recommend improvements in those areas
• Exhibit a desire to understand more complex business transactions and related issues
• Maintain a current awareness and understanding of and to fully comply with the firm's code of ethics, independence rules and quality control practices.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS/BA degree in Accountancy
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in federal and corporate tax compliance and tax planning work in public accounting
  • Familiar with the AICPA Professional Code of Conduct
  • Proficient in MS Office programs, tax-preparation & write-up programs, and online tax research
  • Flexible to handle complex assignments as well as routine tax work (both of which require hands on tax experience)
  • Able to research routine and complex tax issues
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting when required
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to develop and maintain strong client relationships PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, and/or various controls. The employee must occasionally stand and reach with arms and hands. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception. Occasionally, the employee will lift up to 25 pounds or more, such as, to lift files, papers and equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet with frequent interruptions. The employee continuously interacts with staff and/or clients. Travel may be necessary to various client or business sites to perform onsite review/audits, meet with clients and/or the delivery of work product. Additionally, occasional overtime is required throughout the year and may be in excess of 55 hours per week.
