MilliporeSigma is a business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.Your Role:The Research solutions Business Unit Controller is a financial advisor and business partner supporting the Biology and Chemistry planning units in the Research Solutions organization within Life Science. This role provides financial decision support on a broad scope of operational and strategic matters impacting the business's objectives. As an integral part of the Controlling Finance team, this position will collaborate with the Biology and Chemistry business organization, the Head of Research Solutions Controlling, and the Planning Unit Controllers in providing innovative solutions to accomplish multiple financial-related tasks.

  • Support a business unit with > 2b EUR in sales
  • Develop/Update management reporting for the Biology and Chemistry leadership team while also providing robust commentary, insights, and decision support
  • Collaborate with the Analytics Center of excellence team to develop advanced analytics and KPIs to drive business growth
  • Support direct spend of > -40m EUR
  • Create/update monthly expense dashboards for the Biology and Chemistry leadership team while also providing robust commentary, insights, and decision support
  • Assist in the procurement process, provide cost centers information, investigate issues, and resolve problems
  • Work with Finance Organizations on monthly accruals
  • Financial statement analysis
  • Perform financial analysis needed to support the business, including but not limited to sales, margins, fixed costs, inventory, etc.
  • Review, investigate the root cause and explain P&L variances on a routine basis
  • Collaborate closely with different Life Science controlling teams focusing on operations, supply chain, sales, and R&D to manage the long-term P&L of the business unit in line with business strategy and management expectations
  • Partner with finance leaders on tactical and pivotal initiatives (Free Cash Flow initiatives, Operating Plan process, new metrics/KPIs, etc.)
  • Support Strategic planning and decisions for the organization, including but not limited to sales (medium to long term), marketing strategy, and pricing
  • Support the annual Operating Plan process
  • Support the periodic Preview and Forecast updates
  • Support the yearly Strategy Development process
  • Develop and implement effective organization communications with business partners, including financial modeling and analysis, metrics, and reporting that provide insights and a proactive way of managing and monitoring change impacts
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close activities, including transactions review and journal entries as needed
  • Stay abreast of the economic and business trends in the industry and partner with the business on all aspects of the strategic planning process. Provides relevant data, analysis, and fact-based recommendations
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of the Company's accounting policies throughout the business or function, with attention to areas requiring judgment and estimation. Identify and document improvement opportunities, create guidelines and directives, identify potential improvement based on best practices and knowledge of internal/ external business challenges
  • Develop and report on the appropriate set of performance measurements for the business. These metrics should allow for measuring progress on programs that are consistent with the business's strategic direction
  • Interact with all other departments while ensuring that Accounting & Controlling standard methodology knowledge is leveraged across the organizationWho You Are:Minimum Qualifications:
    • 5 or more years proven experience in financial analysis, financial forecasting or budgeting, and /or controllership
    • Bachelor's degree or MBA in Finance
    • Advanced excel & analytical skills to evaluate complex processes and financial scenarios
    • Exceptional data analysis skills at a detail level to provide insights, feedback, and perspective on operational and financial performance
    • Experience with visualization tools: Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, etc. preferred
    • Experience with Cognos TM1, SAP, and Oracle Financials or similar financial ERPs/consolidation systems
    • Experience in handling large volumes of dataPreferred Qualifications:
      • CPA or MBA or the equivalent work experience to the MBA is a plus
      • Advanced modeling capabilities, which include using internal tools viz. Tableau, reporting cubes, BI tools, and other financial systems
      • Passion for solving problems, working at multiple altitudes, from strategic and high-level framing to detailed analysis
      • Ability to synthesize complex analysis into key insights to facilitate executive decision making
      • A learning and growth mindset to continue to sharpen our approach to new business challenges
